Big Island of Hawaii sport fishing charters are the most well known deep sea fishing charters found in Hawaii

The “Mecca” for Sportfishing in Hawaii is the Big Island of Hawaii’s Kona Coast. The Kona Coast lies immediately next to a huge ocean drop-off which descends thousands of feet to the ocean bottom.  This provides easy access by Hawaii charter fishing boats to some of the world’s largest game fish, many of which can be found mounted throughout the stores and restaurants of the small town of Kailua-Kona. Anglers from all over the world have found their way here to participate in one of the most exciting of all forms of fishing – Big Island of Hawaii Sport Fishing.  The thrill of hooking into one of these large Hawaii sport fish (the Pacific Blue Marlin can reach hundreds of pounds in weight) and attempting to bring it on board is something you will never forget. Once you’ve hooked into your first Hawaii sport fish, you’ll be hooked as well! You’ll be back time and time again for the thrill of the pursuit and the excitement of the big game fishing in Hawaii.

There is a huge fleet of fishing boats available for charter on the Big Island of Hawaii and many are among the most beautiful you will ever come across. One additional factor you will find very attractive is the fact that the pricing on these Big Island fishing charters is very, very reasonable compared to other islands in the state. Some of the best sport fishing in Hawaii and in fact the world, on some of the most beautiful sport fishing boats in Hawaii, can be found on the Kona Coast of the Big Island at the very reasonable prices.

Some considerations regarding your Big Island of Hawaii sport fishing charters:

  • Private Hawaii sport fishing charters book the whole boat for the exclusive use for you and your group.
  • You may choose to hire a “share boat” with a group of people. The maximum is usually 6.
  • Hawaii fishing charters are available for various trips lasting 4, 6, or 8 hours.
  • Big Island charter fishing trips can leave in the early in the morning or afternoon.
  • If you’re really serious about Big Island Sportfishing, book a 3/4 (6-hour) or full day (8-hour) trip. This gives your Hawaii fishing charter time to reach the major fishing grounds and spend some time there.
  • The “tag and release” option is usually left up to you. Discuss this with the captain at the beginning of your trip.
  • Hawaii sport fishing captains and crew are great fishermen and many will allow you to bring your own food and drink.
  • All equipment, licenses and ice are provided by the boat.

If you are coming to visit a number of islands in Hawaii and have a choice of where to choose your fishing charter, choose sport fishing on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Are you looking to introduce your children to the sport of big game fishing in Hawaii?  The Big Island of Hawaii has children’s sport fishing charters designed specifically for them to get enthused about deep sea fishing.

Did you know that the Big Island offers “fly fishing” on some charters to catch the big billfish?  Check it out!

HAWAII TOURISM AUTHORITY Kapalua Bay Beach has been ranked No. 2 on an annual list of best beaches. A view of the Kapalua coastline off Maui is shown.

The sand on Siesta Beach on Florida’s Gulf Coast — fine as powdered sugar, a pure, sparkling white and soft as a kitten’s fur comprised of 99 percent pure crushed quartz — beat out Kapalua Bay Beach on Maui as the best beach in America.

“The sand (at Siesta Beach) is outstanding,” said Stephen Leatherman, aka Dr. Beach, a professor at Miami’s Florida International University who’s made a career ranking and studying beaches around the United States. “Every time I go there, I’ve got to take a bag home with me. It’s almost sacrilegious to walk on it with shoes on.”

Kapalua Bay Beach came in at No. 2 on the list, while Hapuna Beach State Park on Hawaii island came in at No. 8.

The 10, in order of ranking, are Siesta Beach, Fla.; Kapalua Bay Beach; Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach on the Outer Banks of North Carolina; Grayton Beach State Park on the Florida Panhandle; Coopers Beach in Southampton, N.Y.; Coast Guard Beach on Cape Cod, Mass.; Caladesi Island State Park in Dunedin/Clearwater, Fla.; Hapuna Beach; Coronado Beach in San Diego; and Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island, S.C.

He’s rated beaches since 1991, and Hawaii beaches are usually represented on the list.

At No. 2, Kapalua Bay Beach — smaller than Siesta Beach — is crescent-shaped and flanked by palm trees. Unlike lots of Hawaii beaches, there aren’t many waves at Kapalua, he said, making it perfect for safe swimming.

“The coral reefs almost go right to the beach. There are tropical fish swimming all around.”

Leatherman, who is director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University, uses about 50 criteria to assess and rank beaches across the country.

Experience Open Range Horseback Riding in the unspoiled upcountry Hawai’i at the Ponoholo Ranch on historic Kohala Mountain. This 11,000 acre working cattle ranch, stretching from the rain forest to the ocean, offers the most spectacular scenery on the Big Island. Awe inspiring views of the Kona and Kohala coastline, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai Volcanoes on the Big Island and Haleakala Volcano on Maui.

The Ponoholo Ranch on Kohala Mountain is one of the most beautiful ranches on the Big Island. This 11,000 acre cattle ranch covering 3 climate zones stretches from the rain forest at 4,800 feet to the ocean. It has the second largest herd of cattle on the island, 6,000 to 8,000, after the Parker Ranch. The ranch is operated in an environmentally sensitive manner through intensive rotational grazing which maximizes nutritional opportunities for the cattle thereby reducing damage to the land through erosion and overgrazing. The cattle raised on the Ponoholo Ranch are sent to the mainland in livestock ships after they are weaned from their mothers. They are then trucked to pasture or to feed lots primarily in Texas.

The Ranch offers awe inspiring views of the Pacific Ocean, the Kohala and Kona coastline and the Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualalai volcanoes on the Big Island and the Haleakala Volcano on Maui.

Paniolo Adventures is the Premier Open Range Horseback Riding operation on the Big Island. We have operated on the Ponoholo Ranch for more than 25 years. In riding the open range our guests get to experience what it was like to be a paniolo in the old days of North Kohala. The red lei lehua on the hat in the Paniolo Adventures logo is the traditional lei worn on the hats of the paniolos of the Big Island.

Feel like a real paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) when you outfit yourself with our boots, hats, chaps and Australian dusters and ride the range dotted with grazing cattle.

Rides vary from 1 hour to 4 hours.
